How To Get Traffic For Your Blog: By Seth Godin

How to get traffic for your blog
My friend Fred, a talented blogger, asked me for advice the other day. Here's a partial answer, with a few apologies to Swift: (and when you're done with this list, feel free to read my post about shark attacks).

1. Use lists.
2. Be topical... write posts that need to be read right now.
3. Learn enough to become the expert in your field.
4. Break news.
5. Be timeless... write posts that will be readable in a year.
6. Be among the first with a great blog on your topic, then encourage others to blog on the same topic.
8. Share your expertise generously so people recognize it and depend on you.
9. Announce news.
10. Write short, pithy posts.
11. Encourage your readers to help you manipulate the technorati top blog list.
12. Don't write about your cat, your boyfriend or your kids.
13. Write long, definitive posts.
14. Write about your kids.
15. Be snarky. Write nearly libelous things about fellow bloggers, daring them to respond (with links back to you) on their blog.
16. Be sycophantic. Share linklove and expect some back.
17. Include polls, meters and other eye candy.
18. Tag your posts. Use del.ico.us.
19. Coin a term or two.
20. Do email interviews with the well-known.
21. Answer your email.
22. Use photos. Salacious ones are best.
23. Be anonymous.
24. Encourage your readers to digg your posts. (and to use furl and reddit). Do it with every post.
25. Post your photos on flickr.
26. Encourage your readers to subscribe by RSS.
27. Start at the beginning and take your readers through a months-long education.
28. Include comments so your blog becomes a virtual water cooler that feeds itself.
29. Assume that every day is the beginning, because you always have new readers.
30. Highlight your best posts on your Squidoo lens.
31. Point to useful but little-known resources.
32. Write about stuff that appeals to the majority of current blog readers--like gadgets and web 2.0.
Write about Google.
33. Have relevant ads that are even better than your content.
34. Don't include comments, people will cross post their responses.
35. Write posts that each include dozens of trackbacks to dozens of blog posts so that people will notice you.
36. Run no ads.
37. Keep tweaking your template to make it include every conceivable bell or whistle.
38. Write about blogging.
39. Digest the good ideas of other people, all day, every day.
40. Invent a whole new kind of art or interaction.
41. Post on weekdays, because there are more readers.
42. Write about a never-ending parade of different topics so you don't bore your readers.
43. Post on weekends, because there are fewer new posts.
44. Don't interrupt your writing with a lot of links.
45. Dress your blog (fonts and design) as well as you would dress yourself for a meeting with a stranger.
46. Edit yourself. Ruthlessly.
47. Don't promote yourself and your business or your books or your projects at the expense of the reader's attention.
48. Be patient.
49. Give credit to those that inspired, it makes your writing more useful.
50. Ping technorati. Or have someone smarter than me tell you how to do it automatically.
51. Write about only one thing, in ever-deepening detail, so you become definitive.
52. Write in English.
53. Better, write in Chinese.
54. Write about obscure stuff that appeals to an obsessed minority.
Don't be boring.
55. Write stuff that people want to read and share.

The second motorcycle is tough-built model and like all other artworks is built out of original parts found in old computers without any additional fabrication of parts. The wheels are the magnetic discs from old computer hard drives.
It represents the spirit of independence and â€œ unlimited drive â€ means â€œthousands of giga-byte of Hard Driveâ€ to be driven on the internet data highway. This futurisic Motorcycle Model is showing â€œwhat unlimited Power is in your Hard-Driveâ€.

Movie Review: The Knowing

All im going to say is that 2009 is definitely getting off to a good start. I went and seen "The Knowing" starring Nicolas Cage. Lets just say this may get some awards. If you have the chance or opportunity please go check it out. Its probably one of the best movies I've enjoyed and would go see again in a very long time.
From the same director as I Robot. This movie has a great beggining,middle,and end. The plot was very well thought out, and the movie made alot of sense as it went on. Me being a numbers freak. The way the story unfolded was definitely to my liking. The way everything correlated, the way everything came together from bits and pieces kept me glued to the screen. my only response is WOW!!!!

Unfortunately, the real world exists -- one in which working from home is sometimes an option, but more than likely, you have to go to work.

If talking, socializing and general forms of human interaction aren't your thing, you probably loathe the idea of working in a cube where the chatter never stops, or in an office where your primary duty involves using your voice.

If you'd rather hone your quiet skills than your voice box, here are 10 jobs that let you work how you do best: alone.

1. Automotive service technician
Why it's quiet: Automotive service technicians have an intimate relationship with one thing: cars. Aside from a short conversation with clients on "what seems to be the problem," service technicians spend most of their time under the hood of the vehicle.
Salary*: $37,622/year

2. Cost estimator
Why it's quiet: Cost estimators keep to themselves as they analyze everything from blueprints to proposals to determine the cost of a potential project from start to finish. They do their best to nail down costs on things like materials, labor, location and duration of the project to determine if business owners or managers should make a bid for a contract.
Salary: $53,413/year

3. Interior designer
Why it's quiet: Though interior designers need to initially meet with their clients to determine their wants, needs and budget constraints, most of their time is spent alone as they focus on decorating. They choose styles and color palettes; and pick furniture, artwork and lighting. Many interior designers work as consultants or are self-employed.
Salary: $45,524/year

4. Librarian
Why it's quiet: It might seem obvious, but given that librarians work in a mostly "no talking zone," it makes sense that a librarian position suits quiet workers. Most of your time is spent organizing and maintaining library publications and materials, and the rest you'll spend directing people to whatever they may need.
Salary: $48,025/year

5. Medical transcriptionist
Why it's quiet: These guys don't talk; they listen. Medical transcriptionists copy recordings made by physicians or other health-care professionals into medical reports, correspondence or other materials. They usually listen to recordings on a headset and use a foot pedal to pause the recording when necessary. Many medical transcriptionists telecommute from home-based offices.
Salary: $31,251/year

6. Network systems analyst
Why it's quiet: Network systems analysts don't consult much else except their computers as they design, test and evaluate computer systems like local area networks, wide area networks, the Internet and intranets. As networks expand, telecommuting is common for computer professionals because more work can be done from remote locations.
Salary: $40,827/year

7. Survey researcher
Why it's quiet: The primary role of survey researchers is to find out what people think. Rather than interviewing people face to face, they design and conduct surveys via the Internet, mailed questionnaires or telephone interviews. Typically, they work alone writing reports, preparing charts and sifting through survey results.
Salary: $27,478/year

8. Translator
Why it's quiet: Translators read written materials and translate them from one language into another. Because this position requires so much reading, writing, editing and analyzing, translators usually work alone. Many translators work from home and 22 percent of interpreters and translators are self-employed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Salary: $42,229/year

9. Undertaker
Why it's quiet: With all due respect, your closest company in this profession is dead. Other than communicating with the family of the deceased to direct the funeral, you are pretty much guaranteed silence most of the time you work.
Salary: $42,278/year

10. Writers, authors and technical writers
Why it's quiet: In the movies, we always see writers escaping to their beach houses, lodges in the mountains or sometimes a haunted hotel -- remember "The Shining"? -- for one purpose: to write a novel. It's not just a stereotype that writers and authors need peace and quiet to work (trust me, I know).

Technical writers are particularly quiet and concentrated, as they focus on putting industrial and scientific information into layman's terms. Remember that simple five-step instruction manual to put together your dresser? A technical writer made those directives as basic as possible, which was probably not an easy task in itself, but was made easier by solitude.
Salary: $42,786/year and $55,707/year, respectively

Different Interpretation of Art

Im a big fan of art actually. I really dont do my own, but im a big fan of Photography art and Architectural art. The best part about it and what I love the most is a human's interpretation of that art. Because people are so different one piece of art will be looked at in millions of ways. You may have some simularities in what you like, but seeing it threw the eyes of another person and listening to what the piece looks like to them is art in its own right. I think I will start blogging interesting pieces of art and feedback is more than welcome.

Twitter these days seem to be all the craze. I cannot deny the fact that I went from 50 friends to 92 in a matter of hours. I dont know if its interest, people im attached to, or just a contest to see who can build the largest network of friends. In anycase its definitely struck the interest of many important people. From Celebrities, Sports figures, your normal bloggers and even CEO's of companies. I think its a way to bridge the gap between the world and give people a small inside look as to whats going on in your life. I say jump on it early. Stocks open sharply higher on plan to aid banks

NEW YORK (AP) - Stocks are sharply higher, a sign of investors' relief over the government's plan to help banks remove as much as $1 trillion in bad assets from their books.

The Treasury Department on Monday announced a plan to revive lending that would rely on the government's $700 billion financial rescue fund, the Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., as well as private investors.

The goal is to remove the toxic assets that have burdened the banks and to boost lending.

In the early going, the Dow is up 162 at 7,440. The Standard & Poor's 500 is up 15 at 784, while the Nasdaq composite index is up 32 at 1,489.

Car bomb kills senior Palestinian official

BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- A senior Palestinian official and three bodyguards were killed Monday when a car bomb targeting his convoy exploded in the vicinity of Mieh Miyeh Palestinian refugee camp near the southern Lebanese city of Sidon.

The Lebanese army is investigating whether Fatah official Kamal Medhat, aide to the Palestinian Authority representative in Lebanon, was killed in the refugee camp or outside. If it happened inside the camp, then the army has no jurisdiction.

There was no information on who might have been responsible.

Redesign Revolt: What Should Facebook Do Next?

Facebook reviews users are still buzzing angrily about Facebook’s recent homepage redesign. The latest installment of this social media drama is an email Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent to his employees stating that “the most disruptive companies don’t listen to their customers.” This is in addition to a popular application that has polled users on the redesign, with over 90% voting in disapproval. The firestorm simply doesn’t subside for Mark Zuckerberg and company.

Given the controversy, what should be Facebook’s next move? In my view, Facebook has three different choices in approaching the redesign revolt:

1. Stay the course: Facebook says nothing, addresses nothing, and charges on with its bold plans to change how we use the social graph.

2. Issue assurances to the Facebook community: In my opinion, this is the most likely outcome. Mark Zuckerberg publishes a blog post on the Facebook blog explaining, once again, his vision for Facebook. The company places a note at the top of the homepage and asks, once again, for feedback and discussion from users. But in the end, they don’t change features.

3. Bring back some of the old homepage features: Facebook will not revert back to the old layout, but they might reincorporate some of the old features, such as events and applications, on the homepage. This is adding back some of the functionality Facebook lost.

I don’t know how they’ll approach the redesign revolt, but this is unlike past revolts such as the News Feed revolt because more features were taken away than added this time around. I think there’s going to be more back-and-forth between Facebook users, bloggers, and the Facebook team before the dust finally settles.
